American Scientists

The hand-written lab notes and works of famous female American scientists are collaged in the background and their names are embedded in the painted, jewel-like surface of the ground with symbols of knowledge and learning.  Aspen trees share the same root system and symbolize the science that unites these inspiring role models.  The scientists are biochemist Jennifer Doudna, computer scientist and mathematician Grace Hopper, Nettie Stevens, Rachel Carson, Katherine Johnson, Hedy Lamarr, Maria Geoppert Mayer, and Cecilia Payne Gaposchkin.
